With only a scant six months remaining until the start of the tenth annual Tales of the Cocktail (TOC) series of events held annually at the Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans, officials from both the spirits-promoting entity and the hotel decided to throw a party.
Hotel Monteleone director of sales and marketing Andrea Thornton was on hand to welcome the TOC’s Anne Tuennerman and her staff to the newly refurbished Carousel Bar and Lounge located on the hotel’s first floor.
The opportunity to show off the new, expansive lounge with two full service bars was a hit with the spirit-loving crowd. Among the improvements to the area are beautiful new ceiling designs, new furniture intended to complement the soft pastel colors on the walls, better lighting underneath the actual carousel that tops the front bar and a new pewter surface for serving drinks.
Complimentary hors d’ouerves and cocktail samplers were passed out freely at the event, which featured entertainment by Robin Barnes and her band.
Barnes is but one of six perfomers who will perform live in the Carousel Lounge on Tuesday through Saturday nights. Included in the lineup of local stars are Ingrid Lucia, George French, Lena Prima, Eudora Evans and Luther Kent.
Stephån Wanger, an unusual artist unveiled a special mosaic titled “A Million Greetings from New Orleans,” fashioned from over one million Mardi Gras beads separated and carefully placed to resemble the New Orleans skyline. The world record work of art, which took 14 months to construct, was unveiled for the first time at the hotel. It will eventually behoused at a location to be decided by Brad Pitt’s Make It Right Foundation.
Artist Robert Rodriguez also showed off his initial poster design for this year’s TOC event.
Meanwhile, the TOC will take to the road in two weeks with a series of events in Vancouver, Canada. This is the second year the Tales group, headed by Tuennerman and her husband Paul, will make the journey to the Great White North and bring a bit of New Orleans’ love of cocktails to Western Canada. The Tales of the Cocktail will take place July 25 through 29 at the hotel with other locations throughout the French Quarter and with spirited dinners at restaurants in other areas.
