The look for Joy Cioci for Fall / Winter 2012 and 2013 at New York Fashion Week was all about the complex but so put together woman who has everything mysterious and seductive going for her.
Makeup: Uzo for NARS Cosmetics
The inspiration is “a complex woman,” says Uzo. “And I think we’re all complex women: some days we’re moody and mysterious, and some days we’re fun and flirty.” The makeup combination of “light and easy” and “moody” was all combined into a smoky eye look and a fun/flirty cheek and a light cheek. What kept it fun and flirty was a new multiple stick for Fall 2012 from NARS called Undress Me (in the same tradition as NARS’ Orgasm, Sin, Deep Throat etc.). It’s not a simple nude beige–it has flecks of silver in it. “It doesn’t have tons of glitter but it keeps the look really pretty and fun,” says Uzo. On a darker complexion it (Undress Me) highlights and brightens the skin, and on a very fair complextion it gives it an almost natural flush. Within the last few seasons, Uzo has seen everything for everyone in terms of trends. “What worked with the clothes for Joy Cioci was a nude lip so it didn’t completely overtake the mood of the collection.” But Uzo admits she has seen a bright red lip make a comeback for Fall 2012.
Nails: Candace Manacchio for CND
The nails for Joy Cioci was all about “the woman who gets what she wants when she wants it.” Manacchio said the “mood of the collection is very dark–not necessarily the color –and it complements the clothes and is very feminine.” The clothes are a lot about texture, so the nails needed to be “sexy and romantic”; hence the CND team used a base shade nail lacquer called Putty (that looks exactly like pale gorgeous skin you’d bare), and a very sexy edge of lace. The CND team spent well over 60 hours to glue actual pieces of fishnet onto the tips of the nails. It’s an illusion of the stocking and a hint of leg.
Hair: Tommy Bucket for Marie Robinson Salon
“We’re creating a braid for Joy Cioci and it’s for the girl who doesn’t care,” says Bucket. “She rolls out of bed, but she literally gives herself ten minutes to look presentable, and she’s confident and she has amazing clothes so what more do you need with hair?” Bucket created a real braid that pulls it off her face and it was very very organic–no pins or anything–just off her face. And he just used drugstore hairspray to create the look. Talk about super sexy! “We’re all about working with a girl’s natural hair texture,” says Bucket.
