For the first time ever, Live with Kelly broadcasted from the Kodak Theatre the day after the Oscars. Academy Award winners Octavia Spencer from The Help and Jean Dujardin from The Artist dropped by to talk about winning their first Oscars and how they celebrated their victories.
Live with Kelly opened its Oscars special with a repeat performance by the acrobats from Cirque de Soleil Iris. Neil Patrick Harris joined Kelly Ripa, who said enthusiastically about Live’s presence at the 2012 Oscars, “We’re all in tears right now.” Last night, Ripa was one of the first TV correspondents to greet and congratulate the Oscar winners.
Uggie the dog from The Artist made an appearance and did tricks for the packed house. Kelly Ripa joked, “He was one of the stars willing to come out this early.” Uggie is delaying retirement to work as Nintendo’s first spokesdog.
First time Oscar winner Octavia Spencer also made an appearance on Live this morning to talk about her Academy Awards experience. “My knees were shaking so bad that all I could remember thinking was ‘don’t fall down,’” she told Kelly Ripa. Spencer claimed that she did not write a speech because there were so many brilliant performances in her category and she wasn’t sure she was going to win. Spencer’s acceptance speech was emotional, raw and one of the better ones of the evening, but she regretted not thanking Disney. However, she proudly held up her Oscar and said, “I was single, but not anymore!”
Octavia Spencer said she celebrated her victory after the Oscars by attending the Governors Ball and the Vanity Fair party. She capped off the celebration with a quick trip through In & Out Burger. Kelly Ripa once again congratulated the Oscar winner and said, “I’ve never pulled for someone in my life because I feel like I know you.” Spencer’s next project is a movie that’s being directed by Diablo Cody and stars Julianne Hough and Russell Brand. It begins filming soon in New Orleans.
Jean Dujardin was another first time Oscar winner that stopped by the Kodak Theatre this morning to chat with Kelly Ripa and Neil Patrick Harris. He’s a big star in France who has taken over Tinsletown with his outstanding performance in The Artist, which won Best Picture at the 2012 Oscars. Dujardin showed off his new Oscar and called it, “My new best friend.”
The actor talked about making The Artist and claimed that shooting in Los Angeles helped him get into character. He told Ripa that his favorite American actors are Sean Connery and Jeff Bridges. He also loves cinnamon rolls and became addicted to them while filming the silent movie.
When asked how he celebrated his Oscar victory last night, Dujardin explained that he did so with his wife, brother, kids, cast and crew. “Was drinking involved?” Rips asked. “Yes, I’m French,” the Oscar winner replied. Dujardin’s dance coach was in the audience and hopped on stage to perform an impromptu tap dance routine. “He is the fastest tap dancer in the world,” Dujardin said excitedly.
James Cromwell and Penelope Ann Miller from The Artist also stopped by the Kodak Theatre this morning to speak with Kelly Ripa. When Ripa asked Cromwell why people connected with the film, he replied, “They participate in the creation of a narrative.” Miller added, “It’s a love letter to Hollywood. People are uplifted and we’re craving that.” In addition to Best Picture, The Artist also won four other Academy Awards at last night’s Oscars.
At the end of Live with Kelly, a trio of fashion experts reviewed the Oscar fashions. The team consisted of Isaac Mizrahi, Lawrence Zarian and Maria Menounos. Isaac Mizrahi hit the red carpet last night and spoke to the stars. His favorite interview was with Brad Pitt. He asked the Money Ball star if his kids were at home watching and Pitt replied, “No, we keep them blissfully naive.” The fashion king also spoke to Cameron Diaz who said last night, “Kelly Ripa deserves an Oscar because she works harder than anyone in the business.”
The trio of experts picked their favorite Oscar fashion winners on Live with Kelly and their list included:
- Jennifer Lopez
- Michelle Williams
- Rooney Mara
- Octavia Spencer
- Emma Stone
- Angelina Jolie
