Kingdom in the Valley Christian Church hosted their first CD release concert here in Phoenix, AZ on February 26, 2012. The concert was held at their church in the northern part of the valley. The atmosphere was exciting, high-energy, and standing room only. More than 900 people gathered to celebrate the 7-year-old ministry and to hear the songs written by Kingdom’s own Pastor Kelley Steele and Grammy Award Winner, Israel Houghton.
For Pastor Kelley, this dream was a long time comin’. Seventeen years ago she looked into the eyes of her husband and best friend, Pastor Reginald Steele, and told him “One day, the world will hear my songs.” Her husband did not destroy her dreams. Rather, he continued to encourage her to write and pursue her dreams. This concert was the first step in her dreams coming to fruition.
Praise and Worship leader, Brandon Roberson, set the tone for the audience with his casual, yet energetic presence. He lead the people into the presence of God for approximately 2 hours, non-stop. Unlike many other concerts and other artists, the praise team did not have an intermission or ‘water-break.’ The members were hyped and energized during the entire concert and sang tirelessly.
The concert featured songs such as the title track “Overflow,” “You Are My Promise,” “I AM,” “I’ll Wait” and “Let Every Nation Rise.” In addition to Brandon Roberson and Kingdom’s awesome praise team, Israel Houghton led songs and shared the moment with Pastors Steele and celebrated the future of the ministry as well.
After the concert, guests were able to go to the Kingdom Corner (the church’s on site retail store) and purchase a copy of the CD, a download card with the songs, and t-shirts commemorating the night. Additionally, guests were able to memorialize the night with a photo and a step and repeat backdrop displaying the CD’s logo.
Overall, the concert was more than this examiner imagined. The audience was exciting, the singers were phenomenal and the love of the Kingdom family was felt from the first step on the parking lot to the last leaving the property.
Due to the popularity of Kingdom in the Valley Christian Church worldwide, they are going to need a larger venue for future events. This location is definitely not big enough for the amount of people that will come the next time!

***Behind the Song, “I’ll Wait” from Pastor Kelley Steele: “I can still remember sitting on my piano after finding out my husband had been fired from his full time pastoral assistant job. Instead of falling into fear’s grip and reacting to the jolt of his sudden unemployment, I began to encourage him and look at the fact that this was going to be a rocky season; and we would be okay. The words were real, but emotions were raw. And later that evening, I did what I knew to do when life throws a curve ball – I began to play my piano…and then worship my Savior…and then sing these words- ‘Lord renew my strength-make me strong in you so I won’t faint….’ And the song goes on, just like the story – it was a rough season, a rocky place- but when you wait on God, He will renew your strength and give you wings to soar. No matter what you suddenly face in life, remember He is with you, He is for you, and He will make sure you go higher in Him.”
