Have you ever been walking out side when you see a painter painting the building you just came out of? Furthermore, have you wanted to learn how to do what they are doing. Now you can because Bonnie Broitzman is offering a class in doing just that!
Bonnie Broitzman has won awards locally and nationally for her work and is going to be teaching a class on the big rules of perspective which will help you quickly analyze what you need to do to create the illusion of a 3-D structure on watercolor paper. She will be presenting this adult only class on how to create and link interesting shadow patterns at the Austin Area Art Center on February 17 &18 from 9-4pm. The cost for this fantastic class is $115 for non members of the Austin Area Art Center and $100 for members! It pays to be a member starting at only $25!
If you have wanted to draw many types of buildings, whether at your eye level, or above or below you, this is the class for you. Bonnie will be teaching this studio class helping you prepare to do your own Plein-aire outdoor paintings! Perhaps you already have an image you wish to use. If so, please enlarge the colored and or black and white image to 8.5×11 inches! Don’t worry if you do not have a photo like that as she will have demos on hand for you to work with.
What do you need to bring to this class? Your own watercolor supplies, water container, terry towels, and a mister spray bottle are what you need to bring along with a drawing board cut about the same size or slight larger than your enlarged image are helpful. Bonnie’s demos will be on a one quarter sheet, 11×15 and one half sheet 15×28. That way you can do either as quarters or half sheets. Please bring #2 and HB Pencils with white erasers.
Other then that, Bonnie will give you all that you need. She encourages students though to get a sketchbook that can keep your landscape ideas and lessons in! If your goal is to do more serious pencil sketches of your favorite buildings, a Bristol Paper Sketchbook is best she says because it has a harder surface. She uses #140 pound Arches cold press bright white paper because she can leave them as pencil drawings or turn them into watercolor painting! You can also order these items through the center!
