Every January in Orlando golf professionals from all over the country meet at the Orange County Convention Center for what amounts to golf’s version of Christmas. Unfortunately for most golfers the “show” is only open to those in the golf industry, so what follows will be your inside look at what goes on.
The event unofficially started on Wednesday at Orange County National Golf Center with Demo Day. The range at Orange County is a huge circular open range surrounded by grass tees and well manicured target greens and 42 acres of practice area. This was my first Demo Day and it was definitely a great experience. The entire range was surrouned by tents and demo clubs from Nike, TaylorMade, Puma/Cobra, Titleist, Callaway, Ping, Mizuno, Bridgestone and a host of shaft and glove vendors. This was our day to test drive all the newest clubs, eat and soak up the Florida sunshine.
The show officially started on Thursday morning at 8:00 a.m. with an opening speech by Jack Nicklaus and then I headed off to a full morning of conferences from some of the leaders in the industry to hear about the latest information on coaching and business development.
The Convention Center is located in the heart of Orlando and is an amazing 7 million square feet of space with over 2 million square feet of golf merchandise with hundreds of vendors from clothing, shoes, belts, hats, golf carts, range equipment, clubs, balls, tees, simulators, tourism information, training aids and well more than you can imagine.
The Golf Channel also covers the event and industry celebs like Hank Haney, Butch Harmon, Lee Trevino, Paula Creamer, Alexis Thompson and more were present and kept the crowd engaged in discussing new products and news in the golf industry.
Today was the final day of the show and it was a great week in Orlando of meeting new contacts and keeping up with golf industry news. There are plenty of photos of Demo Day and the show on our Facebook page so be sure to like our page and check them out at facebook.com/augustagolf.
