Phoenix native Danica Patrick and Arizona residents Denny Hamlin, Kasey Kahne and Jeff Gordon will be among the stars competing during the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series this weekend at Phoenix International Raceway.
Practice runs begin on Friday, followed on Saturday afternoon by Bashas’ Supermarkets 200 at 2:30 and the NASCAR K&N Pro West Series at 5:30. The Subway Fresh Fit 500 (k) events start on Sunday with gates opening at 8 am.
Subway Fresh 500 is a 500 kilometer race, one of only four NASCAR events measured in kilometers rather than miles or number of laps. Past Subway Fresh Fit 500 winners include Ryan Newman, Mark Martin, Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, Kevin Harvick and Kurt Busch.
This weekend’s event in Phoenix will kick off the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season, with drivers and teams gearing up to accumulate wins and points for running in this year’s Chase for the Championship. Jeff Gordon, defending Subway Fresh Fit 500 champion, has a special interest in doing well after a disappointing Daytona 500 result last week due to a blown engine.
Watch the race at 1:00 pm MT Sunday, March 4, on FOX TV.
