The locals refer to Quarry Falls as Bust Your Butt Falls as it is used as a popular summer swimming hole. Once there, you’ll see the “getting in” and “getting out” points. And you’ll have no doubts how it got its more common name.
From the intersection of US 64 and NC 106 in Highlands, NC, follow US 64 for 6.4 miles to a large pull off on the right. You’ll see a kiosk at the end of the parking area although it provides no information about Quarry Falls except giving the name.
Carefully cross the road and you’ll encounter a gravel path just inside the guardrail which parallels the Cullasaja River. Walk downstream and you’ll find the trails used by the locals to utilize this multiple tier cascade.
Quarry is usually measured at 15 to 20 feet but looks higher than that. When you follow the path down to the base pool, you can get a good front view of the entire waterfall, which will make you question the measurement of its height.
