For those couch dwelling denizens of Toronto that get a great many hours of pleasure surfing the 200 + channel universe in search of some quality entertainment there are a handful of TV shows that are just considered to be staples in the viewing diet of any television fan. One of said staples is the long running animated sitcom “The Simpsons” and it is such a staple that it has done a brisk business on DVD as the individual season’s sets go on for sale. Out recently from our friends at 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment is the latest installment of this iconic show on DVD & Blu-Ray. It’s time to dive into “The Simpsons: The 14th Season”.
Many a pundit and wag have deemed that by this it’s fourteenth season; “The Simpsons” had become a tired and lazy show, a shell of its former self. That’s a point that could be argued until we are blue in the face, but when you step away and look at it objectively even after fourteen seasons; “The Simpsons” is still one of the best shows on television.
With episodes like the 13th installment of the Treehouse Of Horror series, ‘How I Spent My Strummer Vacation’ when Homer goes to rock & roll fantasy camp, ‘Large Marge’ when Marge accidentally gets breast implants. As well as ‘The Dad Who Knew Too Little’ where Homer hires a private investigator to learn more about Lisa and ‘Three Gays Of The Condo’ when Homer finds out that Marge secretly hated him years ago, and is so upset that he moves into Springfield’s gay community with two roommates. These episodes along with the 18 others are still some of the funnier things to ever appear on TV.
Ultimately, on “The Simpsons: The 14th Season” there is more than enough quality laughs for the hardcore fan as well as the casual one because even after 22 + seasons and counting; the adventures of the hilariously fractured Simpson clan is still better then a fair amount of the other comedies available on television today.
4 out of 5 stars.
