Situated just off of Exit 9-Marsh Road in Delaware is Rockwood Mansion a true Gilded Age gem. Built from 1851 until 1854 Rockwood Mansion reflects my vision of an English county estate. The Rural Gothic architecture is enhanced inside by the actual clothing personal items, and furnishing of the Bringhurst Family c.1895. The grounds and garden contain plantings and outbuildings that are like an English Park of the Gardenesque style.
The Mansion and its park are reputed to be haunted and it was investigated by Shannon Sylvia of Ghost Hunters International fame, and featured on My Ghost Story season three “Scary Mary.” Dr. Lou DiMieri from the radio show “Parallel Worlds”, who has done extensive investigations of the property, has declared it “Most Haunted House Museum in Delaware.” Good news to Ghost Hunters you can call and arrange to have your own investigation of property. The Friends of Rockwood hold events, like a Victorian Ball to be held on Saturday, February 25, 2012 on site.
The self-guided tours of the grounds and guided tours of the mansion let you step back and imagine that you are in the 1890’s. This site makes for a wonderful few hours of education and entertainment for the whole family.
