Round the Clock family restaurant is befitting of its name since it’s open 24 hours a day — around the clock, get it? And the family part comes in because the menu appeals to every age group from kids to seniors.
There are 16 locations for this family-owned chain of restaurants — the most recent of which is in Orland Park, Ill. — but in this profile, I am talking specifically about the Schererville, Ind., location.
The place looks like it’s right out of a fairytale from the outside and the inside is cozy with rustic wood floors, exposed beams, and booths and tables. If you like good food and plenty of it, you won’t be disappointed. Start with one of their soups, at least two of which are served daily. They’re excellent.
Then, the sky’s the limit. All the usual breakfast suspects (served 24 hours) are represented plus some you’ve never dreamed of. The omelettes are made with five, count ’em, five eggs. Lunch sandwiches come with a bowl of soup or a salad, hot roll, fries and dessert. Expect burgers, clubs, panini, hot sandwiches, BLTs, grilled cheese, croissants, gyros, Philly beef and more. Or try soup and salad, the Waist Watcher, Chicken Lite, or a main-course salad like the Tex-Mex Taco Salad ($8.29) which I delighted in recently.
Dinners include a bowl of soup or a salad, hot roll, choice of potato and dessert. There are daily specials but you’ll always find steaks and chops, chicken many ways, barbecued ribs, grilled baby beef liver, seafood a-plenty, Italian favorites and stir-frys. They’re all prepared exceedingly well in a down-home kind of way.
The pastry case features pies, cakes, cheesecakes, and whole pies and cakes available for purchase, usually with advance notice. Ice cream treats also are available — sundaes, shakes and scoops.
The Senior Club Card is available for those 60 and older. Show it to your server before ordering for the seniors’ menu available daily 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. An additional 20% discount will be taken off senior menu prices between 2 and 4:30 p.m. Additionally, seniors get 10% off the purchase of a whole cream pie. Birthday certificates will be mailed to members for a free entrée when a second of equal or lesser value is purchased. The maximum discount is $5.
Amenities include large parking lot, carryout, catering, private party rooms, and kids’ menu, which includes a soda, and no single item ringing up higher than $5.19. Visit http://www.RoundtheClock.com to join their Email Club for special coupons and discounts.
