The series premiere of Smash debuted tonight and viewers are wanting more. I know I am.
Katharine McPhee stars in Smash, you may recognize her from American Idol she was season five runner up.

Smash revolves around a group of people putting a Broadway musical together based on Marilyn Monroe’s life.
Which is not as easy as the producers think it is.
Each of the people involved have personal issues to deal with before they can get the show to come together and get their lives on the right track.
On tonight’s debut, Katharine who plays Karen Cartwright is seen on stage, lights shining on her, gorgeous dress, hair and makeup, singing, ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ to perfection, when a phone rings and we see that she is in a small room, with three judges/producers, who wave her off with a “Thanks that is all we need”
Someone burst her dream bubble quickly and reality set in.
We then learn about her life, moving from Iowa to pursue her dreams with a boyfriend who has her back and parents who want her to come home.
We meet the producers, Julia and Tom, (Debra Messing and Christina Borle) who decide to write a musical on Marilyn Monroe’s life. They just need the perfect Marilyn.
Ivy, (Megan Hilty)a veteran actress who has not yet landed the major part she needs and wants, seems like the perfect person to play Marilyn.
Though Tom and Julia believe Ivy is great for the part, the director Derek, (Jack Davenport) wants to audition others.
So they set up the audition process, where Ivy and Karen both audition.
Ivy gets nervous and stays in the bathroom while Karen sings “Beautiful”, by Christina Aguilera perfectly and Derek wants her back for another audition.
Though Jack is willing to give Karen the role, if she does him a favor and makes things a little hotter with some sex appeal. He invites her over for a private performance.
She goes, performs Marilyn’s Happy Birthday, in only a button down shirt, flawlessly and as she leans in for a kiss, tells him, “Not going to happen”
Smash ends with us seeing that Ivy and Karen get their callbacks for round two and both singing, “Let Me be Your Star”.
You will have to stay tuned for next weeks episode to see who will get to play the coveted role of Marilyn and what happens between the two girls who both want the part badly and also need this to helo change their lives.
Smash also stars, Raza Jaffrey as Karen’s boyfriend Dev, Jamie Cepero as Ellis Tacharoen, Tom’s personal assistant, and Anjelica Huston as Eileen Rand, the musical’s producer who is dealing with a messy divorce that could affect the show.
Smash has been compared to Glee but to me it seems more like a Fame or Flashdance to me.
I enjoyed it and am looking forward to the following episodes. I think it will only get better.
It has a good storyline that seems easy to follow and amazing singing. The characters are people you will be able to feel for and relate to in some aspects and want to do know what will happen next.
You can watch Smash on Monday nights at 10/9 CST on NBC.
Those in the New Orleans area you can watch Monday nights on WDSU channel 7 at 9:00 pm.
