Usually after a breakup, you do everything possible to avoid run-ins with your former flame. Unfortunately for these TV stars, that wasn’t necessarily an option.
Courteney Cox and David Arquette
After a very messy separation in 2010, Courteney and David are together again. Well, for one episode of Cougar Town, at least. David has signed on to film a guest spot for this year’s season finale, which will feature a major character’s wedding (click here to find out who). The former couple Tweeted the happy news at each other yesterday, with Courteney telling David, “I can’t wait to work with you. You better not be late.” Hmm… they sound pretty chummy. Maybe this off-couple will be on-again in the not too distant future!
Blake Lively and Penn Badgley
Soon after meeting on the set of Gossip Girl in 2007, Blake and Penn took their onscreen romance into real life — that is, until 2010 when the couple broke up. Since then, Blake and Penn have managed to continue a healthy work relationship, with Blake even surprising her ex with a birthday cake on set that same year.
Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony
After seven years of marriage, J. Lo and Marc called it quits last fall. The former couple has since continued to work together on Q’Viva! The Chosen, a reality show they created to showcase Latin music and performance art. While the pair are keeping it all smiles for the cameras, one can only imagine what J. Lo and Marc think of each other’s latest flings (J. Lo is dating 24-year-old back-up dancer Casper Smart and Marc is dating 24-year-old model Shannon de Lima). At least since they’re both playing cougar, neither one can be snide about the nearly 20 year age gaps.
Jennifer Carpenter and Michael C. Hall
Though playing siblings on Dexter, in real life Jennifer and Michael were a powerhouse couple — at least for three years. After one year of dating and two years of marriage, the couple called it quits in 2010. That didn’t stop the series from capitalizing on Jen and Michael’s real life chemistry by making the controversial decision last season to have Jen’s character fall in love with her onscreen brother (and offscreen ex-husband)!
Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray
After nearly two years of dating, One Tree Hill co-stars Sophia and Chad married in 2005 only to divorce five months later amid rumors of Chad’s infidelity. To make matters worse, Chad then soon began dating another OTH co-star Kenzie Dalton, to whom he is now engaged. The former couple continued to work together on the show on-and-off over the years, but that time is almost over. After Chad’s guest appearance in the finale this spring, the CW drama is calling it quits — as is, most likely, Sophia and Chad’s working relationship.
Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak
Kelly Kapoor and Ryan Howard are The Office‘s funniest couple and for a while the actors/writers who brought these characters to life were one of Hollywood’s funniest couples, as well. The pair, who had previously dated and broken up in 2008, were spotted together again around Christmas 2009 and throughout 2010. Sadly, Mindy and B.J. have since broken up again, but they continue to be good friends and a great couple (at least on TV).
Jennifer Garner and Michael Vartan
Long before the second coming of Bennifer entered our lives, Jennifer was briefly involved with her Alias co-star and onscreen love interest Michael. Only a few months after her split from Michael in 2004, Jen was first spotted out with her now-husband Ben Affleck. Though Jen and Michael were no longer romantically involved in real life, the pair continued to play love interests on the small screen until 2006 when Alias ended after six seasons.
