Author Janet Evanovich’s bestselling novel One For the Money has finally been turned into a feature film and there is a great deal of excitement associated with its release. Although the movie focuses on lead character Stephanie Plum, played by Grey’s Anatomy alum, Katherine Heigl, many of the supporting characters in the novel are equally as engaging. One such character is that of Stephanie’s peppery sidekick, Lula, the role that The View’s Sherri Shepherd takes on.
In Evanovich’s books, Lula is feisty and over the top. Her presence provides additional comic relief to the hilarious adventures Stephanie Plum has a natural knack of getting into. Shepherd is perhaps a perfect fit for the character because she possesses the physical attributes of Lula and she is already a comedian to boot. Lula is like an extra loop on a roller coaster ride in the Plum novels. She is a fun inclusion who compliments the high energy of the extremely popular lead character.
It will be interesting to see how fans of the novels ultimately rate Shepherd and her castmates’ performances. Odds are favorable that they will enjoy the movie as much as they do Janet Evanovich’s work. The author is skillful at creating characters that draw readers in and make them wish they could pop off the pages and come to life. With the January 2012 release of the film version of One For the Money, those wishes seem to have finally come true.
