The cast of “Smash” got together last night to celebrate their new show at the premiere party held at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Many of the show’s stars hit the red carpet, including Anjelica Huston, Debra Messing, Katherine McPhee, Uma Thurman, Will Chase and Megan Hilty.
It’s one more week until the show’s February 6th premiere of the show that’s gettingthe biggest promotional push of any show from NBC in recent years.
Executive produced Steven Spielberg from his idea, “Smash” tells the story of theater people working to put together a Broadway musical based on the life of Marilyn Monroe.
If there are any comparison’s to “Glee, there are none. Think of “Smash” as “Glee’ after high school and college. The first episode is available online but the actual show debuts, Monday, February 6th after the Superbowl.
Check out some photos in our slideshow from the premiere which was attended by such Broadway heavy-weights as Bernadette Peters, Nathan Lane, Bebe Neuwirth, Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker as well as Sally Field, Carol Kane and more.
McPhee, who plays newcomer and Marilyn hopeful Karen Cartwirght, researched Marilyn from YouTube and watching Marilyn Monroe’s movies. “You grow up with knowing who Marilyn Monroe was and you have this idea in your head. It’s always the heightened Marilyn,” McPhee told EW. “YouTube is the most amazing thing and [I watched] a lot of movies. But I found the stuff on YouTube is the best. I feel like people have made her more of a caricature of herself. She was really more of a simple woman. Marilyn as a person was very humble and quiet. It was a character she chose.”
‘Smash” begins Mondays on NBC starting February 6th.
