Dealing with a supervisor that is younger than you can be challenging.
When you are the senior person on the job it can be very difficult establishing a work relationship with your coworkers. You don’t want to be an outcast but, you do want to establish some degree of respect.
The fact that you are older and may even have more knowledge of the job than the person working over you can often cause you to be stressed. You could also be unfortunate enough to have a supervisor that is younger as well as immature which can often lead to headaches.
You have to remember this individual is your supervisor you cannot talk down to them because they are in charge. It can be difficult finding a way to express your opinion yet still remain respectful.
The best way to achieve this balance is by taking them to the side and pointing out in a friendly manner that their behavior is not appropriate for management level. Simply reminding them how they are supposed to conduct themselves in a manner that is superior to the rest of the staff. When put in this manner it allows you to keep your integrity being older and is respectful to the supervisor.
