Kia has been on a roll in the past few years, having gotten a stiff infusion of cool. Their lineup is flush with fresh new style and a sense of hipness that can’t be denied. Of all their cars, the funky fresh Kia Soul has become famous on YouTube with their hip-hop hamster commercials.
Not to sit around on their laurels, Kia has been offering up special editions of the Soul too. The latest is a new limited run Red Rock Special Edition Soul made especially for the Southwest region. The Red Rock takes its design and coloring from the red rocks we see around Sedona and Phoenix, Arizona as well as up north at the Grand Canyon.
The seventh version in a series of unique Soul special editions, the Red Rock has a starting MSRP of $20,600 according to Kia Motors of America (KMA). The limited model comes only in a the rich metallic Canyon paint color. Notable features include a high-gloss black front fascia and mirror caps. Inside you will find top grade heated black leather trim and tan cloth seats.
The look is a welcome one if you love the rich warm earth tones of the Southwest. The Canyon paint color and special interior are only available on the limited Red Rock. The special edition is based on the top grade level Soul! model which comes standard with 18” alloy wheels, driving lights, top grade Infinity sound and infotainment system, leather wrapped steering wheel, and climate control.
The Red Rock comes with a 164 horsepower 2.0 liter GDI DOHC engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. It achieves an EPA estimate 26 mpg city and 34 mpg highway. The small mini SUV slash crossover slash mini-van is similar in size and scope to a Scion xB or Nissan Cube, seating five people. The rear-seat folds flat offering a cavernous cargo area too.
“The wildly popular Soul has been a game-changer for Kia since it arrived in 2009, and our series of special editions over the past three years have added individualism and exclusivity to an already fun and youthful vehicle,” said Michael Sprague, vice president of marketing and communications, KMA. “Style and flair are key to Soul’s success, and the Red Rock Special Edition, which has plenty of both, will help drive sales into 2012.”
The Kia Soul Red Rock Special Edition is available now at local Phoenix area dealerships according to the company. The Kia website does not show this special edition and it’s a very limited production model. If you want one, we suggest you log onto the Kia website and get in touch with your local dealer fast.
