If you are in the hair and beauty industry and have been there for a while, I’m sure you have seen the all too familiar attitude that many of the professionals take when it comes to education. Its a common scene. Many stylists go out in the field and they take on a persona that says they are through with the education process and its all money from here on. No more effort is made in regards to staying current with today’s technology and techniques. All too often many professionals stay in tune with the trend by merely purchasing trade magazines and watching what other peers are doing in reference to their photo submissions.
If this becomes you or has already transpired into you, then consider yourself the has been of the future. If you stop the education process, then you ultimately stop the dream. Your growth and productivity will be sub-par to say the least. Your future and your success has already flat lined and evened out with that kind of thinking. Educating yourself in the whole industry process is and always have been a key component in determining your longevity in this business as well as the character and integrity of it. You have to feed your business and nourish it with as much information and innovations available to you on an on going basis.
Never get too big headed that you find yourself rejecting opportunities to educate yourself. Most of all never mistake your filled appointment book with the illusion that you have arrived and that you no longer have a need to educate yourself or advance your skills and practices. Just as sure as the sign of the times will change, that filled book could one day become an empty one. As long as you continue to feed your craft it will continue to be fruitful and return the favor. Set goals for yourself but don’t just set easily obtainable goals….set tough goals. Set goals that seem almost impossible to achieve. That way many of your foreseeable dreams will come to fruition. Try not to get too comfortable in what you are doing. It’s easy to become complacent in your day to day affairs and lose all desire for improvement. A wise man once said….never become satisfied, because a satisfied mind is an idle mind. Don’t let that become you. Never let yourself become satisfied…because if you do, the dream dies.
