Well we are heading into the weekend and many look for a great Sunday brunch. Great food, good price and champagne. We headed out last weekend for a place we thought would be fantastic and we were really let down. This was not the first time at this particular restaurant. Unfortunately this review is more of a warning to avoid this place, usually I share great must go to spots however I have to share the bad ones too.
Acapulco Restaurant located at 12625 Frederick Street in Moreno Valley at the Towngate Center was our pick for brunch last Sunday. I am not sure which was worse the food, the service or the price for the two. Then to top it off the manager had a “I don’t care” attitude.
Let’s talk about service first, the server (and since service was at best horrible I am not listing his name) took about 15 minutes to stop by the table even though he was standing right next to us. Then beverages took another 15 minutes, we had our first plate of food eaten before he brought us the drinks. We also asked for chips and salsa at least 4 times which they never found their way to the table. Refills, what refills, we almost got up and got them ourselves from the server station. The server was only interested in the table when we asked for the manager. I always ask for the manager after we pay so I can introduce myself and let them know I am writing a review.
Now let’s talk about the brunch buffet, you are better off ordering from the menu at least that food is hot and fresh. The buffet food was old and at best warm. The tortilla’s, supposedly handmade there were hard and had been sitting a long time in the basket. Most of the dishes had no flavor and were cold or over-cooked. The best thing offered was the cabbage for the tacos, yes it sounds harsh however we were shocked at the poor quality and how old the food was, my estimate is the food was put in the warming plates at 9 AM when they opened and by noon it was nasty.
Okay to the desserts…
Well they offered a fried flour tortilla drizzled with old caramel and called that a bunuelos (not) then they had what looked like a mini fried burrito that had a old mashed banana in the middle. They also offered a mini flan which was stiff and bland, the caramel sauce was runny and tasteless. Unfortunately the flan was not rich and creamy.
So this reviewers opinion, stay away from Acapulco for a while until they can up their game. There are too many other options for brunch around the same price point. If you do opt to head to this location be sure to order from the menu for fresher food and better service, the cost is about the same for a menu item and the buffet around $16.00
