Sunday is a rather big day for NBC. Not as big as next Sunday will be, but not bad. The peacock presents two All-Star matchups on two networks, one after the other.
It starts at 1 p.m. with the NHL All-Star Game on the network formerly known as Versus, now known as the NBC Sports Network. It’s hard to believe that with all the outstanding players on the Sharks squad, Logan Couture is the only Shark participating in the scrimmage from Ottawa, but there you go.
Following hockey, at 4 p.m. on NBC itself, KNTV channel 11 locally, is the Pro Bowl from Honolulu, the NFL’s All-Star contest. It’s a consolation prize for the nine 49ers attending. Had they won last week’s tough overtime matchup against the Giants, they’d be on their way to Indy instead of Hawai’i.
For the four Raiders participating, it’s a chance to be recognized and play another game.
The 49ers All-Stars are Frank Gore, Joe Staley, Patrick Willis, Carlos Rogers, Dashon Goldson, Justin Smith, David Akers, Andy Lee, and Brian Jennings.
For the Raiders, it’s Richard Seymour, Sebastian Janikowski, Shane Lechler, and Jon Condo.
Meanwhile, Sunday is also the first meeting this season between Cal and Stanford’s men’s basketball, always a big deal around here. It’s even more meaningful now because both are playing well and need a win to keep their momentum going.
CSN Bay Area has the FSN telecast from Maples at 5:30 p.m. Something to flip over to if you think you’re not seeing enough of the 49ers or Raiders in the Pro Bowl. Or if you want to watch a contest that actually counts.
