The cool morning temperatures were warmed by the sunny skies for the Arctic 5K Trail Race, held on Liberty Mountain this morning.
The race, one in the Liberty Mountain Trail Series, began at 9am with nearly 200 runners. Although many of the runners were Liberty students and faculty, there were also many local runners.
Lynchburg has a large, supportive running community, as is evidenced by recently being named Outstanding Runner Friendly Community by The Road Runners Club of America.
Fans watched from the Snowflex deck as the runners took off into the woods and some stayed out on the deck throughout the race. Others went inside the cottage to warm up.
The top runners in both male and female categories were all under age 25, a testimony to youth. The next race in the Liberty Mountain Trail Series will be the Liberty Mountain 5K Trail Race on February 25.
