Among the many products being sponsored this year at NAMM 2012 is one for vocalists, Throat Saver, developed by David Aaron Katz. The President of Superior Vocal Health, Katz has developed a line of products for vocalists. Because so many factors, both externally and internally, can affect a singer’s voice, the company’s line includes products such as Vocal Rescue, Throat Saver and Sinus Clear out.
Any professional vocalist will attest to the fact it is a twenty-four hour job to preserve one’s voice. Therefore, Katz, who is a professional singer and also serves as a cantor, became transfixed on researching ways in which to do this. With this as his life’s mission, he additionally maintains the only blog in the internet that is soley devoted to natural voice care. The site often features naturapathic doctors, vocalists, recording artists and vocal coaches as guests, that give advice and guidance. The voluminous blog can be found at www.superiorvocalhealth.blogspot.com. CONTINUE READING BELOW THE ADVERTISEMENT.
Among those who have endorsed Superior Vocal Health products is Grammy-winning, multi-platinum selling singer/songwriter Jimmy Webb, who is known for writing massive hits, including “By The Time I Get To Phoenix,” “Wichita Lineman,” and “Galveston,” which became chart-topping songs for Glenn Campbell. Webb has also written songs recorded by numerous other artists, including R.E.M, Linda Rhonstadt, the Supremes, the Fifth Dimension, Willie Nelson and Billy Joel. Art Garfunkel’s rendition of the 1973 hit “All I Know” is among the countless songs written by Webb.
Among other Superior Vocal Health’s users is Jaime Vendera, who shattered a wine glass using only his voice on the television show Mythbusters. According to Adam Savage, the show’s co-host, it marked the first time such an event was recorded on camera. James LaBrie of Dream Theater is among those that use Vendera’s vocal methods.
Tony Harnell, known for his work with the band TNT, was also at NAMM, praising the product as he talked shop with Laura Kaye, the lead vocalist for the band Mark Wood Experience, at the Woods Violin booth.
Katz has left no stone unturned to ensure the product line has complete integrity. All products made by Superior Vocal Health are FDA regulated and Kosher Certified at a GMP facility. All of his products are made with certified organic herbs, ensuring that no artificial chemicals will be used on the throat.
Throat Saver is comprised of an innovative formula, created for sore and dry throats. It is used to aid and help remove excess mucus and debris from the throat and vocal cords that accumulate due to post nasal drip and infection. Throat Saver also helps reduce swelling and inflammation of the throat and chords. Throat Saver helps those who have dry mouth syndrome that occurs due to reduced saliva flow in the mouth.
Katz says it can also be helpful for speeding the recovery process of acute head colds, and general throat irritation. He explains that Throat Saver assists in clearing the throat of mucus congestion, by removing lingering mucus that needs to be expelled. If mucus stays in the throat too long, it can become a breeding ground for viruses and bacteria to continually live, thus prolonging recovery from colds and flus.
Made of ingredients including herbs and peppermint oil, because they are natural remedies, professional vocalists can use Throat Saver on a regular basis, whenever needed. Throat Saver can safely be used to help the voice throughout the day, and it can also be used during rehearsals, backstage at performances, during presentations and for general daily maintenance for the voice.
Another product for singers in the line is Vocal Rescue, which combines more than ten herbs that have been tested for helping vocalists. Used by many voice professionals, it’s results are rapidly seen and felt. Gargling with Vocal Rescue helps to coat and restore the throat. Katz says it also helps do the same for vocal cords that are stressed out, due to excessive use, tiredness, and/or sore throat due to colds, laryngitis and tonsillitis. The New York based singer notes that it can be very effective when used for throat and vocal repair.
He adds that one doesn’t even need to be a singer to have voice problems. Katz notes, “If you use your voice on a regular basis in the public sphere, this product may give you the quickest and safest solution to raspy voice or tightened vocal cords.” Its concentrated blend of restorative and invigorating herbs helps to coat the vocal cords and throat, promoting healing. Improvement may be immediate in some cases.
Vocal Rescue has been used by Broadway singers, opera singers and professional speakers on the road to help keep their voices in top form.
Some vocalists use Vocal Rescue just before going to bed or after a performance. Others use it the night prior to performing to let it coat the throat all night.
Katz is adamant that Vocal Rescue should not be used as a replacement for proper vocal technique and coaching. He says that excessive yelling, screaming, and abuse of the voice should be avoided at all costs. He also warns that one should never sing if there is a serious problem with the vocal cords or throat. He says that any vocalist having ongoing vocal problems should consult a qualified ENT immediately. Vocal Rescue is intended to be used for relief of an over-used voice, not an abused voice.
Another product from Superior Vocal Health is Sinus Clear out, which is administered with a tongue dropper. It has an immediate and direct impact on the sinuses. It was created for one of the most nightmarish and common issues suffered by voice professionals, clogged sinuses due to cold, flu and allergies. Sinus Clear Out was created specifically for singers. It is an extremely aromatic formula that produces vapors that may help sinus passages to open and dilate in order to drain them, which deepens breathing.
For those with chronic sinus problems, Sinus Clear Out is safe to use over a prolonged period of time. Garlic, Horseradish and Cayenne are among its most potent ingredients.
Because of its protocol, it can be used by speakers, as well, or anyone else that has vocal, sinus or throat problems.
