Spoiler alert! The following contains information on Castle 4×17 “Once Upon a Crime”. Read along at your own discretion!
Tamala Jones, best known as our Castle medical examiner, Dr. Lanie Parish, interviewed with both GMMR and Wetpaint, giving fans some teases about tonight’s episode, “Once Upon a Crime”, as well as some upcoming girl talk between Lanie and Beckett and what’s to come for the season four finale.
Oh, my God. We have such a wonderful episode coming up. We have a murderer that is basically Charlie Manson, and Beckett and Castle are trying to hunt him down before he makes his next kill.
But the crazy part about this murderer is that he is recreating fairy tales. As he’s killing the women, he’s dressing them up. I think we have a Snow White and a Little Red Riding Hood. And the murder scene, the way he sets it up is crazy. Little Red Riding Hood has the Big Bad Wolf after he— I’m just going to leave the mystery there.
Tamala explains that her character Lanie will be very instrumental is helping to solve the fairytale murder mysteries, as her examination of the victim’s bodies reveal some pivotal information on how the murder cases piece together!
Fans have been dying to have more of the sassy ME on-screen, especially as far as seeing more girl talk between Lanie and her best friend Detective Beckett, the likes of which hasn’t been seen as prominently on the show since as far back as season two. According to Tamala, that very thing might be on the horizon.
“Stana [Katic (Beckett)] and I have been talking a lot about that ourselves and we’re actually going to pitch a few things to [CASTLE creator] Andrew [Marlowe] and see what they come up with. I think they’re already headed in that direction [of more friendship scenes], the stealth ninjas that they are, those writers in that secret room. They always come up with some good stuff. And I have a feeling we’re going to see more of that towards the end of the season.”
The actress does have her opinion as to why Beckett might be a little hesitant on confiding in her friend regarding the secret she’s harboring from Castle: “Lanie doesn’t sugar-coat anything”. Lanie has always been very outspoken about the spark between the dynamic duo, so it’s understandable that Beckett probably knows a heart-to-heart discussion with her BFF would result in her being pushed into confronting her feelings once and for all. (Though is that really such a bad thing?!)
Lastly, Tamala gives an exciting, albeit vague teaser regarding what’s to come with the season four finale:
It’s all going to add up to this big boom. That’s all I can say, like, “Boom. In your face. Yes, we did it again. We got you, and we’re going to have you hanging on to the next season.”
What Andrew [Marlowe] and the guys in the writers’ room have been doing has been magical.
Tamala says that this season’s finale is not only going to be a cliffhanger, but a powerful jaw-dropper, too! The secrets between Castle and Beckett will be coming out in the coming episodes, and that means Johanna Beckett’s murder investigation will be revisited and involved in the finale. What else do the writers have in-store? Perhaps the mystery around Castle’s father, too?
