Denver Band The Foot. (the “.” is an intentional part of their name) dropped their double-EP set Tuesday, February 28, 2012. “The Crowd Control EP” and “The Cloud Control EP” are both 3 song odysseys worth every dollar you can afford on The Foot.‘s web-release page here.
The Foot. have been an energetic, funky, and tight group since the beginning and these latest efforts find them achieving higher marks on those standards. Members Jeff McCollister, Phil Barrett, Noah Shomberg, & Drew Sowell put a lot of work into these new EPs. I think some of the writing reveals some glimmers of emotional maturity that belie their “firmly” tongue-in-cheek autobiography here.
I think “Cloud Control” is the EP the band meant for us to listen to first because it makes the early-internet sound samples into nice bookends for the two EPs as a whole. The EPs together sound like an album even if they only last as long combined as one side on an LP.
The Foot. are clever to go for the buzz of a double-release while simultaneously inviting their listeners to conceive of an internet-age musical work as the anachronistic A and B sides of an album. You will be left wanting to hear more from The Foot. as “Crowd Control” comes to an end but also satisfied from the pleasant motion of the ocean on your journey.
I’m heading here to buy my $10 tickets to the March 3rd Double-EP Release show at the Bluebird now-before they sell out. The Foot. have lots of friends so get ready to rub elbows and groove-things at the show. Physical copies of “The Crowd Control EP” and “The Cloud Control EP” will be available at the show if you are into collecting signed memorabilia or your hard drive is already full.
