Today is always the most important day of your life. However, that’s not the main message I hope to get across in this article.
I predict that you’ll remember Lent 2012, the 40 day period between last Wednesday and Easter, as a time when you gave up something that changed your life forever — maybe willingly, but maybe not so willingly.
Lent is traditionally a time of fasting. It’s a time that you give up something, so you can secure something better, a deep personal change or a realization of some sort. These realizations and changes lead to the renewal of our soul.
Ash Wednesday reminds us that from dust we came, and to dust we shall return – Genesis 3:19. However, this year, that dust theme may shift a bit. People everywhere are waking up to the fact that “We are stardust. We are golden, and we’ve got to get ourselves back to the garden.”
The ancient Mayans saw that the cosmic forces, which provide for that return, occur on 12/21/12. However, major Shifts don’t turn on a dime – or even a day. Traditionally, they take seven years. Some things happen before the specified significant internal turning point, and some events manifest after that point.
The 2012 Shift is all about renewal of a BIG cosmic cycle.
Easter is all about renewal of the yearly cycle. This year, I wouldn’t be surprised if the yearly renewal takes on cosmic, life changing proportions.
I’m going to go out on a limb this year and predict that major events will occur between now and Easter that will change your life forever. Major events are occurring now in all of the lives I’m personally aware of, and I think that two or three things will happen in the next three or four weeks, so that most everyone also becomes aware of that fact.
Sometimes, if we don’t voluntarily give up things, as in fasting, the Universe will eventually take something that’s important to us away — to help initiate the renewal process. Being emptied is simply the part of that process that needs to occur before we can become filled with something better.
That’s what renewal is all about, and this year promises to be a doozy of a renewal! Cooperation with it will make the changes easier and less painful.
A student once asked his master: “Is all the pain and anguish really necessary?”
The master replied, “The pain is necessary. The anguish is optional.”
Fasting from food and/or negative thoughts is a way of cooperating with the change that’s necessary for renewal. Purification is the program and purpose of Lent. And in that regard, this Lent will be no different from any other.
However, in these dynamic times, you may want to take that program and purpose a little more seriously than you may have in previous years.
This is the year that the renewal of universal proportions unites with the Earth’s yearly renewal. Our personal life is where the rubber meets the road as we shift into a higher gear. This Lent, the time between now and Easter, is our oportunity to become aware of this shift and prepare ourselves for that renewal.
