On Saturday, February 4, 2012, four Downriver animal rescues–Basil’s Buddies, P.A.W.S. of Michigan, Shelter to Home, and the Wyandotte Animal Shelter–will sponsor the third annual “Love Me Because…” adoption event. The event is hosted by Hood’s Do-It Best Center of Wyandotte at 1844 Ford Avenue (Northline Road). “Love Me Because…” begins at 12:00 noon and will end at 5:00 PM.
“Love Me Because…” is designed specifically to place animals with special needs, who have a much more difficult time in finding a permanent home. Last year’s event put 16 animals in new, loving homes and raised $1600 for animal rescue in the Downriver area. About 40-50 animals–roughly 10-15 dogs and around 35-40 cats–will be available on-site for immediate adoption.
This year’s event introduces several other creative ways to support these local animal rescues. Pet ID tags and enameled keys with cat/dog pictures are available and can be made while you wait. Special merchandise with the “Love Me Because…” logo–including t-shirts, sweatshirts, fleece blankets, and homemade knit slippers–is available for purchase. A silent auction, featuring arts and crafts made and donated by local supporters, and a bake sale will also take place during the event.
“P.A.W.S. would like to thank Hood’s for hosting this event,” said Terra Pollock Muscat of P.A.W.S., “and for their ongoing support.” You can support this unique event, too, either by adopting a new furry member of your family, through donations, or by volunteering. For more information, to volunteer, or to donate baked goods for the bake sale, contact Sara Dean or visit the P.A.W.S. of Michigan Web site.
