Here are some highlights for running in the New York City and Brooklyn area this week:
Spring-like weather continues this week in the New York City area. Temperatures are expected to be in the high 40s and low 50s, with Wednesday being the coldest with a high of 40. Saturday will be the warmest day with a high of 56.
Some precipitation is expected this week, including rain on Wednesday as well as a chance of rain/snow showers on Thursday.
Running events and meetings
On Tuesday, February 28, JackRabbit Sports is hosting a core training course at its Upper West Side store, located at 140 West 72nd Street. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. and will featured Madalyn Mako, a personal trainer, to teach runners how to strengthen their core beyond the typical crunches.
New York Road Runners will host Club Night on Thursday, February 1 for its members. The night will feature awards, dancing and a great opportunity to network with fellow runners.
JackRabbit Sports will also host several group runs around the city:
- Monday, February 27 at 6 p.m., Group Run (Upper East Side, 1255 Lexington Avenue)
- Tuesday, February 28 at 7 p.m., Group Run (Union Square, 42 West 14th Street)
- Wednesday, February 29 at 7 p.m., Group Run (Park Slope, 151 7th Avenue, Brooklyn)
- Sunday, March 4 at 8 a.m., Group Run (Upper West Side, 140 West 72nd Street)
Prospect Park Track Club will also host its weekly runs on Wednesday and Saturday this week, for members and non-members. On Wednesday, the club will meet at Grand Army Plaza at 7:15 p.m. and on Saturday, they will meet in the same location at 8 a.m.
The race circuit heats up this weekend with races in both New York and New Jersey for area runners. NYRR is hosting the Coogan Salsa, Blues and Shamrocks 5K on Sunday, March 4 at 9 a.m. The race is sold out, but spectators are welcome to join the family-friendly event.
Other area runs include Little Cow Harbor for Hope 4 Mile Run in Greenland, NY on Saturday, March 3; the Parade Day 5K in Rockaway Beach, NY on Saturday, March 3; and the E Murray Todd Half Marathon in Lincroft, NJ on Sunday, March 4.
