January turned out to be a really great month for live music in Long Beach. Metalachi and the Go to Eleveans (Spinal Tap tribute) at diPiazza’s
Metalachi is the world’s first and only heavy metal mariachi band. If you have never seen this show before you need to see if to believe it. This band is amazing and puts on one of the best live shows you will ever see. The really made an impression on those who saw their first show in Long Beach which launched them all the way up to the number 2 slot on 2011’s top 25 bands of Long Beach. Metalachi is set to perform at 11pm according to the dipiazza website.
Galway Hooker Band at Tilted Kilt
The Galway Hooker Band combines in your face rock sound infused with Irish tradition to bring you lyrics and tunes that will leave you asking for “another round”! Each musician brings experience and talent that is surely unrivaled. With a veteran punk rock vocalist, melodious fiddle player, quick fingered mandolin player, rock bassist, solid drummer and versatile guitarist you will definitely feel the energy in their edgy sound that will leave you wanting more. This Huntington Beach based band formed in 2008 and has continued to become one of the most sought after Irish bands in Orange County, filling venues both small and large. They have played with an array of other bands and compliment any genre of music that is on the bill. From playing with David Allen Coe at the Coach House, the Young Dubliners at the Galaxy, with Craic Haus at the Juke Joint and TSOL at the Punk Rock Picnic, The Vibrators at the Blue Cafe and The Yeastie Boys at Gallagher’s Pub … there is always a place on any stage for The Galway Hooker Band. Many have noted The Galway Hooker Band as having a very unique sound. A sound that matches the talents of some of their favorite bands who have influenced them greatly, such as The Pogues, Dropkick Murphy’s and the beloved Flogging Molly. If you have not yet had the chance to see them play as a supporting band or headliner, you will not want to miss their next show. Brought to you by Dizzy Dustin and Ugly Duckling the #1 band in 2011’s top 25 bands of Long Beach it’s thee long awaited return of The Soul Clap at The Blue Café. Complete with a listening party for Ugly Duckling’s “Moving at Breakneck Speed” and Blown Celeb’s “1000 Screaming Kamikaze’s”. Burger Records presents The Meow Twins, The Flytraps and Bombon at Speakeasy Art Gallery
The Meow Twins, think X-Ray Spex meets Bulimia Banquet, were #13 in 2011’s top 25 bands of Long Beach and are gearing up for even greater success in 2012. With the Flytraps and Bombon and 5 local artists this looks like a safe bet for an all-out psychedelic party.
The Moderates and Arioch at diPiazza’s
The Moderates finished at #14 in 2011’s top 25 bands of Long Beach. Combining slow melodic hypnotic vibes similar to the likes of Coldplay to gritty guitar bellowing resembling the White Stripes, the Moderates are destined to be remembered in the same facet as The Pixies. With 80’s metal heroes Arioch closing down the show this is a true musical journey from Alternative music of the 90’s all the way back to what made 80’s metal so popular.
