At the recent CES (Consumer Electronic Show) in Las Vegas, the Hauppauge, Long Island-based Tiffen Company introduced products directed at photographers and videographers giving them the ability to produce stunning and powerful images, and has won prestigious awards like Videomaker’s Best of CES 2012.
The Tiffen Dfx digital filter suite was demonstrated at the Tiffen space showing the versatility of the software for the user. The Dfx3 can be purchased as a standalone product; can be utilized as a plug-in by Photoshop 3.0 (and above versions), Adobe Photoshop Elements, Adobe Lightroom and Aperture.
While watching the demonstration I could not help but notice the fast rendering image that results upon using any of the 2,000+ optical filters. Along with the huge amount of features that are now being offered in this rendition of the software, the ability to use: Color Shadows (which gives a high contrast image affect); Film Stocks, (simulating some of the old-style film techniques from black & white photographic film, to the Polaroid’s styles); Masking and the ability to add layers give this software a powerful ability. You can use it as a standalone, for those who may not have the ability to use Photoshop. During the demo they used an easy masking tool, and showed that you can add layers that utilize some of the blending modes found in other editing software like Photoshop, to create masks of specific segments in an image so it can be moved or enhanced.
The amazing ease of use of the product to produce very satisfying images for clients in a short time makes it in essence a timesaving tool. Also the working photographer who may have focus on portraits will enjoy the key lighting visual effects, reflector effects, and ambient lighting. These techniques are effective and will give assistance to any problems the photographer or videographer may be having with light. For many who would prefer to dive right in without reading the manual on how to use the product they’re going to have a great time of discovery trying out the different tools in the Dfx 3.0.
For every preset and tool offered in the software the Tiffen Dfx 3.0 , by use of sliding levers that are under each of the presets for the user, you will have the ability to create your own styles and save them to produce your own library of styles. Along with the ability to save your favorite filters, which means there will be no more hunting for a filter that you enjoy using.
Some more added services are:
DeBand: Banding frequently occurs, in blue skies for instance, with DSLRs as well as digital cameras. DeBand removes banding artifacts from an image by smoothing pixels in banded areas while retaining detail.
DeBlock: Removes blocking artifacts created as a result of high compression factors, such as overly compressed JPG images, which often cause square blocking artifacts.
DeNoise: Grain and noise from digital cameras, whether still or video, is a common problem. DeNoise removes the grain and noise while still retaining detail.
Glow Darks: Glows and grows the dark areas of an image, creating a stylized, dreamy dark glow.
By having such a wide range of tools offered in one product this will cut down on your need for many of the plug-ins, leaving you one software to finish your images so you can go back out, and shoot! For the person editing video, this software offers you the ability to alter perspectives of your videos. Using the tools listed above will give you many more creative twists and turns to your creative juices.
This product is loaded with so many useful tools that you will never get bored while using it, plus it has many standard presets that will give you the option to click, and go. Allowing you less time per image or you can take the time and just experiment with the blend modes, filter effects, and the speed of the multi-processor acceleration showing you all the possibilities of your creation.
