Hey Dallas, what movie did you go see this Oscar weekend?
Here are the top ten movies for the weekend of Friday, Feb. 24, through Sunday, Feb. 26, according to the Box Office.
Four films debuted this past weekend, Act of Valor, Wanderlust, Tyler Perry’s Good Deeds, and Gone. While Act of Valor and Good Deeds had no problem rising to the top, Wanderlust and Gone bombed at the very bottom of the list.
Act of Valor has no big names attached to it or a lot of publicity to attract audiences, yet, it managed to debut at number one with $24.4 million. Production for this military thriller was $12 million, so it made some pretty good profit in its first 3 days.
At a distant second place, Tyler Perry’s Good Deeds came in with $15.5 million. This is Tyler Perry’s second lowest opening, following Daddy’s Little Girls, which opened with roughly $11 million.
The family adventure sequel, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, has been in theatres for three weeks now and stood strong at number three with $13.4 million.
Even though Wanderlust had Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston attached, it had an incredibly weak opening with $6.5 million. This is almost as bad as Amanda Seyfried’s Gone, which debuted at number nine with a measly $4.7 million.
Here are the Top 10:
4. Safe House: $10.9 million
5. The Vow: $9.9 million
6. Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance: $9 million
7. This Means War: $8.4 million
8. Wanderlust: $6.5 million
9. Gone: $4.7 million
10. The Secret World of Arrietty: $4.3 million
The runner ups this week are Chronicle with $3.6 million, Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace 3D with $3.1 million and The Woman in Black with $2.7 million.
