The end is finally here… But before you bring out the tissues and watch the last two episodes of Chuck ever, relive the memories with me—your humble and fellow Nerd / wannabe Intersect. Here are my top 5 Chuck episodes of all time. Feel free to add your own in the comments and look out for my series finale review coming soon!
#5 Chuck Vs the Nemesis Season 1 Episode 10:
What Happens: Bryce Larkin AKA White Collar’s Neal Caffrey AKA the most charismatic, beautiful specimen on this earth, is alive!
Why We Loved It: Bringing Bryce back is the first of many obstacles to challenge the epic love of Chuck and Sarah. But even die-hard shippers admit we couldn’t necessarily hate on Bryce given he was Chuck’s best friend in college, Sarah’s former love, and a kick ass spy himself.
My Personal Favorite Part: When a Fulcrum agent takes Chuck hostage, Bryce speaks to him in Klingon (!) to assure he’s wearing a bulletproof vest before shooting him. This is a perfect example of how the show stayed true to its nerdy roots. Hee!
#4 Chuck Vs the Cougars Season 2 Episode 4:
What Happens: Nicole Richie guest stars (and kicks ass) in this episode as an old high school classmate of Sarah’s. Circumstances arise and Sarah has to attend her high school reunion, despite her uneasiness with confronting her past. Why
We Loved It: It was nice to see how our tough female lead came to be in the CIA and Yvonne Strahovski’s portrayal of a young, braces-wearing outcast was spot on and insightful. It brought her character humanity and leveled the playing field between Chuck’s nerdy persona and her sexy, CIA character. My
Personal Favorite Part: This episode showed us girls can have sick, martial arts skills just as much as guys. An impressive fight sequence in the girls’ gym room was filled with showers, nose bleeds, and smeared mascara. Bonus feature: the background song used as Sarah and Richie’s Heather Chandler fought was “Smack My B*tch Up.”
#3 Chuck Vs the Subway Season 3 Episode18:
What Happens: Ellie finds out about Chuck’s secret life, Daniel Shaw returns from the dead, and lastly, Shaw kills Papa Bartowski. ::sniff sniff::
Why We Loved It: By far the most emotional of all Chuck episodes, this installment reinforced the importance of family. Chuck was faced with the consequences of lying to Ellie for so long, while Casey revealed his true identity to estranged daughter, Alex.
My Personal Favorite Part:Morgan is convinced Ellie is cheating on Awesome when really she’s been secretly working for an associate of the Ring. When Awesome sees Morgan’s video footage of Ellie covertly meeting with the Ring agent, he believes the affair is real and finds solace in the company of none other than Big Mike, Jeff, and Lester!
#2 Chuck Vs the Intersect Season 1 Episode 1:
What Happened: Well, the show started—and its one of THE best, and most entertaining, starts I’ve ever seen. This pilot episode does an amazing job of setting up characters, tone, and eventual arcs that play out for the rest of the show’s duration.
Why We Loved It: It captured the essence of what this show is about, that no matter how ordinary you might feel, anyone has the potential to be a spy—or at the very least, an extraordinary asset.
My Personal Favorite Part: Chuck trying to escape his own birthday party (thrown by the perfectly, pre-med student couple of Ellie and Awesome). Because hey, it’s tough being a college grad working in retail, feeling like you’ll never live up to your own potential. This is why I first related to the show. It gave me hope that maybe one day I would accidentally upload the Intersect and be cool too!!!
#1: Chuck Vs the Ring Season 2 Episode 22:
What Happens: Ellie and Awesome’s wedding is ruined delayed when Chevy Chase as Fulcrum’s big bad threatens Chuck’s family, namely Ellie—if he doesn’t give up the Intersect 2.0 Cube.
Why We Loved It: Bryce and Chuck had a touching bro moment before Bryce’s ultimate demise, leading Chuck to take control of his destiny and ultimately uploading the Intersect 2.0 (right after he de-intersected for the first time). Casey’s reaction (and ours) to Chuck’s new knowledge of Kung Fu is priceless: “CHUCK ME.”
My Personal Favorite Part: The action scene between Bryce, Sarah, and Chuck against Roark & Fulcrum agents takes place in the wedding reception area. What transpires is a chaotic masterpiece turning the wedding cake and gifts into oblivion, all against the background music of Jeffster’s “Mr. Roboto.”
HONORABLE MENTION: Chuck Vs the Colonel Season 2 Episode 21
What Happens: Chuck and Sarah are on the run, Papa Bartowski is being held by Fulcrum, Captain Awesome finds out about Chuck’s secret, leading to the awesome Casey/Awesome fight!
Why We Loved It: This is the big shipper episode. While running from the CIA, Chuck and Sarah stay at a motel and have to share a bed. They wake up snuggling and finally, FINALLY give in to their feelings and have the most overdue make out session ever.
My Personal Favorite Part: General Beckman sends Casey to retrieve Chuck and Sarah—dead or alive! It seems like Chuck vs. the Colonel since John was never really pro-Chuck in the field, but we discover the big guy just wanted to be let in on the plan. Aww.
