People are passionate about their pizza pies. Thin and crispy with grease dripping down your arm? Thick and doughy, loaded with gooey cheese? Somewhere in between? With these top ten pizza joints, every kind of pie is covered. (This covers the Clearwater area…not Tampa or St. Pete.) These are NOT ranked in order. Equally impressive, these pizzerias all have positive attributes, so they are ordered alphabetically.

This place is a Clearwater Classic. Always a go-to spot for after high school football games and sporting events, but just as good for a casual date night, this spot has you covered. This place has a cool atmosphere with walls bedecked in all things sports. The rest of the menu is equally as awesome, (try the Buffalo wings and Buffalo-style breadsticks…and their SPAGHETTI and meatballs are off the charts!) but try the thin crust pizza with some pepperoni. The pepperoni become little cups as they cook, cradling the delicious grease of the cheese and meat. Fill your pie with tons of toppings, get it extra crispy, and you won’t EVER be disappointed. Fresh, homemade sauce, toppings, and cheese, this pizza is one you’ll easily fall in love with at first bite. This is one place you’ll keep coming back for more…of everything!
Cristino’s Coal Oven Pizza
1101 South Fort Harrison Avenue
Clearwater, FL 33756
Urban Spoon Reviews:http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/30/341432/restaurant/Tampa-Bay/Cristinos-Coa…
The unique coal-fired brick oven gets the crust so crispy and crunchy. The sauce has a delicate balance which is perfectly complemented by the crust and toppings. The Margherita pizza is one of the freshest around with tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, fresh basil, and oregano. Another favorite is the Quattro Formaggi, made with tomato sauce, mozzarella, goat cheese, ricotta, gorgonzola, basil and oregano. The blend of four cheeses is ridiculously amazing…and will satisfy your craving for a real pizza pie that oozes with cheese. This place also has a wonderful atmosphere with an outdoor patio where the breeze blows under twinkling strands of patio lights. Highly recommended!
Whichever one of these you choose, you will NOT be let down by the decadent and unforgettable unique flavors. It’s HIGHLY advised that you eat the pizza in-house to get the full effect of the flavors and textures.
12800 Village Blvd.
Madeira Beach, Fl. 33708
There are three locations for this joint. The one that puts out the best pies is the original location in Madeira Beach, their John’s Pass location. Uber-thin and crispy, true NY style, this is the place to go for the drips-off-your-chin type of pizza. The toppings enjoyed by yours truly the most? Meatball and onion is definitely the way to go here. Succulent meatballs and flavorful onion smothered with real mozzarella on a thin and crispy crust. Perfect. Check this place out next time you’re on the way to the beach. It’s a bit busy, so get there before the dinner rush.

This is obviously a pizza chain, which usually doesn’t float my boat, but Jet’s Pizza has something that one cannot find anywhere else: Jet’s Boats, the Jet 10 Pizza, and Jet’s Bread with Bacon. A “boat” is Jet’s Pizza’s version of a calzone. Gooey and spicy, filled with your choice of toppings, it comes to your house steaming hot and crispy at the same time. Dip it in the pizza sauce that comes with it. You won’t be disappointed. The Jet 10 Pizza has the following toppings: premium mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, ham, mushrooms, onions, green peppers, hamburger, Italian sausage, bacon and black olives. Best served on top of the deep dish crust. If you like the corner pieces the best, Jet’s also makes a corner’s only pie, eight pieces, each with its own corner crust. Delish! Jet’s hand-tossed pies, ordered well-done, are pretty awesome as well. The small one tastes better than the large one. Finally, the Jet’s Bread with Bacon. Hello, bacon! You can’t go wrong when you take bacon and pair it with parmesan cheese, romano cheese, butter, mozzarella cheese, garlic, and put it on top of thick blocks of pizza dough. Don’t forget to order extra pizza sauce for this one. Each bite is like the perfect mouthful of pizza each time. Superb!

Their thick-crust pizza is the best around! Thin and crispy is pretty magnificent as well. Try the Full Monty, one of their best offerings on the menu, which has the following toppings: pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, green peppers, onions, and bacon (anchovies optional). The crust is pretty amazing here and the sauce is very simple…simply wonderful! The Deep Dish Sicilian is a favorite, but order up some beers because this baby…as huge as it is….takes a good thirty to cook…but it’s definitely worth the wait! Just as good delivered as it is in-house…check this spot out!
Pajano’s Pizza and Subs
1305 Gulf Boulevard
Indian Rocks Beach, FL 33785
This place has been around for over 40 years, serving up fresh hand-tossed pies to the beach community. Actually, this place was the first pizza place in Indian Rocks area. Keeping it simple, Pajano’s doesn’t complicate things; instead, they keep it fresh and to-the-point with traditional pizza toppings and a killer sauce. Chewy and toothsome crust holds up the delicious toppings easily. The pizza sauce is balanced so well; definitely a favorite! The toppings are extremely fresh and obviously so. Grab extra napkins if you like it fully loaded. Try it with anchovies. Don’t be scared! The subs here are dynamite, too! The Philly is especially a winner; you have to try it. Don’t miss this favorite spot of many for so long! Authentic taste, excellent crust and toppings, and customer service is one-of-a-kind at Pajano’s Pizza and Subs.
Paul’s Chicago Pizza
1500 N McMullen Booth Rd
Clearwater, FL 33759
Paul’s Chicago Pizza offers both thin-crust pizza as well as stuffed pizzas. If you’re in a rush, they also offer a take-and-bake option so that you can cook it up at home, if you desire. The thin crust actually gets the most rave reviews, but the stuffed pizza is just as scrumptious. The former is chewy and cripsy while the latter is thick, stuffed with your choice of toppings, and topped with a savory and amazing tomato sauce. You can also get either pie as a white pizza. Try this place if you’re craving some Chicago-style pies.
Post Corner Pizza
431 S Gulfview Blvd.
Clearwater Beach, FL 33767
Located on Clearwater Beach, Post Corner Pizza has long been a favorite for all to enjoy. Offering a variety of pies, Post Corner Pizza’s got it all covered. Go for the square-cut pizza and add your choice of a myriad of toppings, some very daring, some traditional: chicken, sausage, pepperoni, hamburger, bacon, ham, salami, jalapenos, gyros, mushrooms, fresh tomato, fresh garlic, onions, peppers, olives, anchovies, eggplant, spinach, broccoli, zucchini, artichoke, feta, and pineapple. The Grecian Pizza is their version of a white pizza with the following toppings: spinach, tomato, feta, garlic, ricotta, mozzarella. Whichever way you go, you leave with an amazing experience. There’s also a wide variety of non-pizza items, mostly Greek items. Try the fresh garlic as a topping…but maybe not on a first date!
Umberto’s of Long Island
150 Patricia Avenue
Dunedin, FL 34698
Urban Spoon Reviews: http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/30/345412/restaurant/Tampa-Bay/Umbertos-of-L…
Technically in Dunedin, this one is close enough to Clearwater by a block! This place is TOO amazing not to get a spot. Thick, Sicilian-style or thin and crusty, this restaurant gets it right both ways. The sauce is the real-deal, made fresh everyday, with plenty of tomato and garlic flavor, with some fresh herbs for some punch. They have the ratio of cheese to sauce to crust down just right…so you get a perfect balance with each bite. Try some of their other offerings, like the Snowballs (baked meatballs covered with cheese) or their flash-fried Calamari with excellent marinara sauce. There’s something in the sauce that makes you crave it time and time again.

Urban Spoon Reviews: http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/30/345423/restaurant/Tampa-Bay/Untouchables-…
Although this place is located in Largo, it’s definitely one of the best around in the Clearwater area, so it’s included. The sauce on Untouchables’ pizza is so unique. It’s sweet and spicy, and there’s nothing else out there like it. The crust is perfectly balanced, not too doughy, not too crispy. The toppings are excellent and fresh. The Godfather Special is a meatlover’s treat….topped with sausage, pepperoni, homemade (and killer!) meatballs, and ham. The Mobster Special is also delectable, with pepperoni, sausage, green peppers, mushrooms, black olives, anchovies (optional). All of their pizzas are expertly crafted and best-enjoyed in house. The place is kitschy, with a mobster-theme and a menu that will crack you up a little bit with the descriptions and names. You’ll die for this pizza!
