One of the all-time favorite activities in winter has to be sledding. On any given snow day in every Connecticut town, families bundle up and, trek over to the closest hill. For people in the western part of the state, more often than not, that “hill” is the Woodbury Ski Area and “sledding” is actually tubing.
That is correct! Sledding is available in adult sizes too. Woodbury has approximately one mile of tubing trails spread over 20 courses in three different tubing parks. Perfect for any age, the park is even lit for evening entertainment. For those that prefer to be vertical, Woodbury also offers 100 acres of skiable terrain.
There is also no need to fear the Spring thaw. Woodbury is open all year and offers tubing in all seasons. Summer tubing is done on one of two tracks over the same trails used in the winter. A special, artificial surface is used to simulate the full snow experience. Summer guests can also swim in or relax by the river, enjoy a picnic lunch in a tranquil setting, or try their luck at the exhilarating activity, zorbing.
Zorbing, of course, is the act of climbing into an inflatable orb and bouncing down the mountain. It is a life-sized version of a soccer ball rolling down the stairs, except on a much larger, manned scale. All indications point to it being a unique, adrenaline-charged and very memorable experience.
