Wait 5 minutes in Cincinnati and the weather will change. This year that definitely holds true. Where we should be knee deep in snow and ice by now, we are instead going to work in 50 and 60 degree weather with lots of rainy days and blustery winds. This brings us to a favorite holiday, Valentines Day. A few weeks away and not a snowstorm in sight, it’s time to think about what to wear when we go out and about in the ever changing Queen City.
The first suggestion is your basic little black dress. Every girl has one and in this day and age of budget conscious closets, we need to dress it up for this very special date! Think of your little black dress as the cake you’re putting the frosting on. Everyone needs a foundation and this is it. I’m sure you’re thinking to yourself “Black? I don’t want to wear black on Valentines Day! That’s a little depressing!” Trust me ladies, you won’t be depressing when we’re done.
Now that we have our little magnificent black dress, we don’t want to go out with bare legs in the winter. As you’ve probably heard, Pippa & Kate Middleton have brought back the “cover your legs” hose movement. It’s perfectly okay now to wear hose and tights, especially if you live in our part of the country! Face it, we don’t live in California or Florida where we can get by with bare legs all the time. (and goosebump flesh is so not hot). Patterned hose are so in right now, ladies attending functions all over Cincinnati wearing them. They are all over fashion magazines too. In Style, Vogue and Glamour just to name a few. These will keep your legs warm and enhance the look and tone of them at the same time. Check out Nordstroms at the Kenwood Towne Center in the hosiery section for Pretty Polly Sparkly Tights $25.00 These are also available online. Another absolute favorite are the Gipsy Ballet Ribbon tights available at us.asos.com for $17.93. These say class all the way. They can go out to a nice French Restaurant, Bistro, Ballet, or just a nice candlelit dinner in. Either way, he won’t be able to take his eyes off of you.
To top off our fabulous legwear I suggest some color! A bright candy apple red peeptoe pump says “happy valentines” like nobody’s business. Some great options on pinupgirlclothing.com. Try “Lolita” for $44.00 and “Tempest” for $68.00. Your other option for some great color pop is zappos.com. where there were some hot pink peep toes from RSVP called “Raina” for $54.99 on sale and to-die-for Betsey Johnson softer pink rhinestone dotted peeptoes with leopard print bottoms and darker pink heart on the sides for a still reasonable $139.99. Check them out! (Good thing we only have 1 pair of feet because you will want to order these!)
Are you saying “I can’t wear PEEPTOES with tights! Have you lost your mind???” Stylists have been letting people do it forever! Just approach with caution..do not let the seam of your tights show on the toe of your “peep”.
Once you have the basic dress/legwear/footwear on, primp away and do your makeup, put on that hot red polish and lipgloss and find some sparkly jewelry but keep it simple. You are going to be RED HOT! Cupid approves.
Send some pictures of your fabulousness in feedback. Happy date!
