Friday, Feb 17th there was a lively, yet mellow crowd at Hammer’s Grill & Bar, located at 771 E. Horizon in Henderson, when the Rowdy Band rolled in along with the gorgeous Jack Daniels girls.
Rowdy, the lead singer, sang country tunes by Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and other popular country artists, while the Jack Daniels girls handed out golden shots of Jack Daniels new Tennessee Honey Whiskey to patrons eager to test the new liquor out, or pose for a photograph with the girls.
Hammer, the bar’s namesake, was busy helping out the bartenders, and visiting with regulars and friends that popped in for the event. The dance floor got busy with newcomers and old-timers getting out there, jitter-buggin’ and two stepping to the beat of the Rowdy Band. Have to say, this is a really great country band, and everybody was definately enjoying themselves.
Hammer, for hocky fans out there, was the nick name for Bob Fleming, who played for the Buffalo Sabres, the Calgary Flames, and the St Louis Blues. Hammer is usually around, and doesn’t mind talking about his days as a pro-hocky player, he don’t bite and he’s plenty friendly. The bar is set up as a neighborhood gaming and sports bar, with Hammer’s sports memorabilia and jersies for decoration, and a dozen flatscreen TV’s around the walls of the bar. This is a great place to go if you are new to the area, to feel at home and get to know new people.
The food is delicious, drinks reasonable, and the staff is accomodating, down to earth and good for a joke or two. Right now, Hammer is running Nascar specials for the races, bucket of domestic beers is $12. There is a special for every day of the week, Meatball Mondays, two meatballs in marinara sauce $5, Two for Tuesdays, which includes two Chicago dogs for $2, well drinks and beer two for one. Wednesday is all you can eat pasta, $9, Thursdays Wings, for Hammer’s multi award winning wings,$6, with a choice of all seven varieties, Friday Fish Fry with nice cod fillets, $9, and Saturday is Prime Rib, (seems like a side of beef) $14.95.
Hammer’s is also a great place to have charity functions, family or company funtions, and birthday parties. Birthday’s are big there, just talk to Hammer, and they’ll be happy to throw together something affordable, and pitch in a birthday cake.
