An exciting pairs’ free skate is in store after a short program that saw the top three Canadian pairs finish with less than one point separating them. Defending silver medalists Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford are in first at the Canadian Figure Skating Championships, with newcomers Jessica Dube and Sebastien Wolfe in second and the defending champions, Kirsten Moore-Towers and Dylan Moscovitch, in third.

VIDEOS: Pairs’ short program gallery
Skating a fiery short program, Duhamel and Radford were not flawless, though they were able to fight through a late error in their program. They hit all of their big elements, including their side-b-side triple salchows and their program-ending throw triple flip. But they missed the timing on the entrance to their counter-rotational star lift. But even though they were able to recover to complete the lift, the element was invalidated, which cost them about four points in base value. They were still able to lead as a result of strong program components marks with a score of 60.92.

Making their debut as a pair at Canadians, Dube and Wolfe impressed not only with a new program but also with a new element. They hit their side-by-side triple salchows and a throw triple lutz. But their extra training time after the Grand Prix series allowed them to add a triple twist to their repertoire. Their clean short earned them a 60.65, 0.37 behind the leaders.
Skating last of the 12 pairs, Moore-Towers and Moscovitch were solid with their opening triple twist and side-by-side triple toes, but had to count a fall on the throw triple loop. The rest of their program was clean, and they stayed in contention for their second title with a 60.26.
Reigning bronze medalists Paige Lawrence and Rudi Swiegers are in fourth after a fall on their side-by-side triple salchows. But the podium is still well within reach, as they are less than two points behind the top three.
