The 2012 Philadelphia Flower Show will beging blooming on March 4th and run until March 11. 2012. This year’s theme is Hawaii: Islands of Aloha, which will surely be a spectacular tropical display of the flora and fauna of the Aloha state. The amazing feat of the Flower Show’s exhibitors is their ability to force the plants and flowers to bloom and create breathtaking displays, all indoors. This year’s theme will bring the beauty of the Hawaiin Islands into Philadelphia’s Convention Center for all to experience a bit of relaxation and beauty.
Families are encouraged to enjoy the PHS Flower Show with their children and introduce various concepts related to gardening and discovery of the Hawaiian Islands. There will be many features just for children, including the all-new Einstein Healthcare Network Family Lounge powered by Sprout in which children can get a break from the crowds and displays in a safe atmosphere with an adult and have a bit of fun playing with toys, making a craft, playing with puppets or watching a movie. On the weekends, children will be treated to a special visit from characters from the latest Dr. Seuss movie, The Lorax, along with special readings from The Lorax by Children can also enjoy a visit with Sprout’s own Chica from the Sunny Side Up Show. Check our the full schedule of family fun events on PHS’s website for specific times. The Family Lounge will be open daily from 10am to 5pm and children must be accompanied by an adult.
Sunday, March 11 is Family Day at the Flower Show. The day will offer a range of activities and events for the little ones, including family-friendly lectures and demos, along with the activities in the Family Lounge. As a special treat, Flower Show Week culminates with Girl Scout Day on Sunday, March 11. All Girl Scouts who have completed the new PHS environmental patch program, “Planting Seeds, Growing Lives,” will be honored in special ceremonies at the Show.
The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society has arranged a specially priced Family Fun Pak which includes tickets for two adults and two children and a one-year membership with PHS, all for $70. Advance tickets are available online at www.theflowershow.com.
The proceeds from the 2012 PHS International Flower Show, including tickets and sponsorship contributions, support The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and its acclaimed urban greening programs, including City Harvest.
