What is going on here? I just logged onto my computer and BAM!!!
A Youth Baseball Coach from Oak Lawn, Ill was recently suspended for posting “I’m so sick of reading about this dumb stupid N***** Whitney Houston” on his Facebook wall.
As I wrote last week questioning why there was such a backlash regarding Governor Christie’s decision to lower the flags of New Jersey at half staff in honor of Ms. Houston, I must admit that I may have missed the bull’s eye. I tried to ignore and refused to bring race into the matter, and I continue to stand by my decision.
What I will ask is what is going on? I’ve had the opportunity to scroll down and read some of the comments that were posted below the report on MSN now and can honestly say there is a real problem. From justification to fact twisting to flat out hatred it is all there. Some of the comments actually stated that black people were the blame for this Little League, President and Coach (which is concerning within itself) using the word. How? People are saying that because black people use it themselves it is their fault. Now I must state that I don’t use the word and actually that every person of color who uses get fined based upon the number of people who may be exposed to it. With that said, I really don’t understand the rationale or the connection. I have yet to observe a serious conversation that actually went like this….
I’m so dumb…. Yeah, you are
We can substitute the “I’m so” for anything negative and you won’t get a response that agrees, even if the person is not the sharpest tack in the box or the slimmest person in the room. How people can actually come to the conclusion that because rappers, comedians and maybe some of your everyday African Americans use the word justifies someone to use it in a hateful way is beyond me.
If you scroll down the comments you will find many people who have rallied behind this coach and believe that nothing was done wrong. Some of the comments actually started going into affirmative action and President Obama and how he is only in office because he is black.
I believe our “Golden Rule” Luke 6:31 is being tarnished and actually sadly to say I believe it may have been pawned and swapped for “fools gold” the cry for Freedom of Speech. We need to really stop and pay attention to weightier matters (Matthew 23:23). We need to realize that Freedom of Speech does not give you a freedom to be mean, cruel, hateful, hurtful, ignorant, nor racist. Opposed to seeking liberties provided by the constitution, people need to actually turn their hearts to God, because only where the Spirit of the Lord is, is there liberty. (2 Corinthians 3:17)
So what do you think?
